Events in Cornwall in August 2012

There is so much going on in Cornwall this August that you would be forgiven for forgetting the Olympics and heading down Britain’s most favourite holiday area! There is so much on that I have selected a very few just to give you a taste of the variations you can get!

28/7/12 to 3/8/12 - Charlestown Regatta Week: In aid of local charities, this week of fun events and activities starts with the Regatta Day which includes a fun Triathlon, water golf, a raft race and Knobbly knees. The week progresses with masses of things to do and see for all the family. You can even go for a three hour sail on the Earl of Pembroke, a square rigged barque. 29/7/12 to 4/8/12 – Looe Carnival Week: Organised by the Looe Lions in aid of their charities, it kicks off on Sunday 29th July with a vintage and classic transport display and parade and all day car boot sale with side shows, rides and refreshments. The week continues with Floral dances, Children Sand modelling, fun runs, a fancy dress three legged race (for over 18s). This week culminates with a Grand Carnival Procession on Saturday evening. 31/7/12 to 10/8/12 - St Endellion Summer Music Festival: For a complete change of pace, this music festival is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary with a programme of lunchtime and evening performances of classical pieces ranging from Bach to Vaughan Williams including Stravinsky’s “The Rakes Progress” and Tippett’s “A Child Of Our Time”. This “not to be missed” event will be held at the Collegiate Church of St Endelienta

3/8/12 to 5/8/12 - 40th Cornwall Folk Festival at Wadebridge: This is more than just a music festival, it is fun for all ages with childrens events, dances, workshops , concerts and free sessions all around Wadebridge. 8/8/12 to 12/8/12 - Boardmasters Surf, Skate + Music Festival: with two sites this year, Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach, Newquay is definitely the place to be if you are into BMX, Skateboards and gigs. Checkout http://www.boardmasters.co.uk/index.php for the low down.

12/8/12 to 18/8/12 - Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week: more than sailing regatta, this is a full on festival including a Pink Wig Charity Party, a hog roast and several concerts. Then there are the 6 days of racing, from keel boats and dinghies to the larger yachts. Their website http://www.falmouthweek.co.uk/ has more details.

17/8/12 to 19/8/12 – West of England Steam Rally: this will be a 3 days feast for those who love the sight and sound of steam engines with 50 full size engines from all over the country as well as lots of miniature engines, steam cars and a working section. There will an old time fun fair , models and crafts as well as working horses, a hawking display and lots of other fun and entertainment. The whole family will love it! 25/8/12 to 26/8/12 – Pentillie Festival of Speed; With hill climbs, classic cars, sports cars, 4 x 4 off road driving, a giant scalextric and an F1 simulator, music, laser clay pigeon shooting, lots of food and drink; this will be a fantastic couple of days , all in the estate grounds of Pentillie Castle.
